  1. The ECP will first ensure their own safety, then secure areas for those in need.
  2. Each ECP will have a communication device.
  3. The ECP will designate a safe area/shelter and advise persons present in their area.
  4. The ECP will appoint 3 people (assistant emergency contact person) to help in their area.
  5. The ECP will know all vulnerable persons present in their area.
  6. The ECP will know if there are persons with special needs in their area.
  7. During the storm the contact person will maintain (keep it on) their communication device.
  8. After the storm the ECP & AECPs will canvass for those in need of assistance. Before entering the house/building, ensure the space is safe to enter.
  9. If someone is in need, the ECP team will contact the appropriate entities and render aid. If the person in need is movable, they should be moved to a safe area (designated by the ECP of that area) for Emergency Services.

Each ECP should prepare an emergency backup for supplies that may be useful when first assessing for needs post event. These items should include but are NOT limited to:

  1. A couple bottles of water
  2. Flashlight
  3. First aid kit – which includes a tourniquet
  4. Blanket – for use both in case of shock or for moving injured persons
  5. Roll of paper towels
  6. Knife

The ECP team should have all contacts for local emergency services and advise their area accordingly
